Ariel Winter: Sexualising Herself?

She is only 19 but her dressing choices are far more revealing than they should be for a teenager.

Modern Family star Ariel Winter and her older beau, actor Levi Meaden, who turned 30 last week, walked the Emmy Awards’ red carpet hand in hand like a madly in love young couple.

But more than their chemistry and PDA, however, what attracted the paparazzi was Winter’s dress choice. At 19, it’s expected a teenager would wear a classy, sophisticated yet elegant dress but Ariel, who has been working in the industry since she was four years old, begs to differ. The young actress chose a Steven Khalil dress, featuring thigh-high slits on either side.

This is not the first time the actress has worn a risqué outfit. Her dressing style has been the subject of major scrutiny, with her estranged mother too criticising it.

“She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person that she is. I feel sad that she feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary.” Chrystal Workman had said in an interview this year.

“She is beautiful with her clothes on”, she had added.

Ariel became emancipated from her mother in 2015, after accusing her of physically and emotionally abusing her. A week back she made shocking claims that her mother sexualised her from a young age and made her wear tiny clothes.

But her mother is no more involved in her life now and she makes her own decisions – one of them being dressing up in cleavage showing tiny clothes.

The teenager was at the receiving end of criticism in May too when she attended the Modern Family ATAS event in North Hollywood, California in a golden minidress.

Is that outfit okay for a teenager? And that too for a casual event?

And this one:

That she wore to the Vanity Fair and L’Oreal Paris Toast to Young Hollywood.

Ariel is young, talented, and a future Hollywood actress, but isn’t simplicity the best accessory? It’s depressing to see Ariel Winter, a staunch feminist and a future graduate of politics, going all Kylie

With millions of social media followers and her divine fans of Modern Family who look up to her, especially young girls, Ariel could and should have used her platform for better things than displaying her ample cleavage. Of course she’s allowed to live her life the way she wants to but the girl needs to understand there’s no need for her to sexualise herself.
