She is witty, fiery, and one that doesn’t zip up her mouth. In her nine-year long association with the film industry (she debuted in director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, in 2007, alongside Ranbir Kapoor), Sonam Kapoor has given us more memorable (sometimes controversial) quotes and style tips than worth-watching movies. Her films have come and gone in the bin, but the actress has remained in the spotlight thanks to her red carpet dresses and some really badass quotes. Here are some of them.
Sonam’s debut film was opposite her childhood friend Ranbir Kapoor. Rumours has it that she had a crush on him for years, but was shattered when he began dating Deepika Padukone. The former child friends have not been on friendly terms since then, and Sonam has over the times made fun of him. Once she said:
“Ranbir isn’t sexy at all. He is a mamma’s boy; his mother cuts his toenails for him!”
Later she went on the Koffee With Karan (Johar) show with Deepika Padukone, who had broken up with Ranbir Kapoor by then. When asked by Karan what product Ranbir should endorse, Deepika said – a condom. Sonam and Deepika laughed over him and were slammed by Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor.
On her fashion, she said:
“I burst on to the fashion scene and ruined everyone’s life. I’m sure some actresses curse me for that”.
Well, some actresses still haven’t hired a good stylist and are still appearing on the worst dressed list.
The loud-mouthed actress once called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ‘aunty’! Here’s how she justified herself:
“Aishwarya has worked with my dad, so I should call her Aunty na?”
She gave another badass quote and took a shot at some of her rivals without even taking their names.
“If you’re not good looking, you’re a good actor. You know what I mean?”
Of course we do, Sonam.
But her most famous quote has been about writer and columnist Shobhaa De. In 2010, De criticised Sonam’s movie I Hate Luv Storys. Sonam’s reply was this:
“Guys, please don’t take Shobhaa De seriously. She’s a fossil who’s getting no action and going through menopause”.
Sonam was scolded by her parents for including such harsh words for the old lady and she later apologised.
