Bollywood Actresses Who Debuted Opposite Shahrukh Khan

Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan aka SRK aka Bollywood Badshaah has been in the industry for more than 25 years now and given not only hits after hits but also new heroines. Here’s looking at all those B-town actresses who made their Bollywood debut in a SRK film.

SHILPA SHETTY

The long-legged beauty made her film debut in the SRK and Kajol starrer Baazigar. Baazigar was a box-office hit and opened a lot of opportunities for Shilpa. Though she didn’t have an illustrious career as an actress, she now is one of the busiest entrepreneurs thanks to her rich NRI husband Raj Kundra who she married in 2009.

SUCHITRA KRISHNAMOORTHI

Suchitra Krishnamoorthi was a successful model in the early 90s endorsing brands like Palmolive, Clearasil, Limca and Colgate. She debuted alongside SRK in the 1994-released Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa which was a commercial and critical success. After marrying filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor in 1999 she quit her showbiz career but returned to acting in 2005 with My Wife’s Murder opposite Anil Kapoor.

MAHIMA CHAUDHRY

Remember the ‘pardes’ girl? Her first film was Pardes opposite Shahrukh Khan. Not only was the film a hit, the actress even won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She went on to act in movies like Daag: The Fire, Dhadkan and Lajja. In 2006 she married Bobby Mukherji, an architect businessman and has a daughter named Ariana.

PREITY ZINTA

Yes, the dimpled beauty debuted in a SRK film! Preity played a supporting role in SRK and Manisha Koirala starrer Dil Se and the song picturised on her – Jiya Jale – is still famous. The actress won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for Dil Se and Soldier.

HRISHITAA BHATT

Her first film was Asoka (2001) that had SRK and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles. The film was a commercial failure and Hrishitaa’s career failed to take off. She is hardly seen in the social circuit now.

SHAMITA SHETTY, KIM SHARMA & PREETI JHANGIANI

These three actresses debuted in the SRK starrer Mohabbatein which was released in 2000. The film also launched Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill and Jugal Hansraj. Despite having a blockbuster start none of the newcomers had a great career ahead. Shamita, who is Shilpa Shetty’s younger sister, has now retired from acting and is an interior designer. Kim Sharma too has retired from acting.

GAYATRI JOSHI

Gayatri Joshi debuted with Swades. The film was a critical success but she retired soon.

CHAK DE! GIRLS

Chak De! India is considered to be one of the best films in Indian cinema. It featured Shahrukh Khan as the coach of a fictional Indian hockey team. The film was the debut film of most of the girls. Tanya Abrol, aka Balbir Kaur, is now a member of the long-running TV show CID. Sagarika Ghatge, who played Preeti Sabarwal, played the lead role in Rush opposite Emraan Hashmi.

DEEPIKA PADUKONE

Counted as one of the best actresses in Bollywood today, Deepika Padukone made her Bollywood debut in Om Shanti Om in 2007 opposite SRK. The film was one of the most successful films of that year and earned Deepika the Filmfare  Best Debut Award. She has since appeared in several hit films like Cocktail, Finding Fanny, Piku, Ramleela and Bajirao Mastaani. Deepika is now foraying into Hollywood with a lead role in Vin Diesel’s XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.

ANUSHKA SHARMA

Anushka Sharma made her debut in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008 playing SRK’s young wife. The film was a commercial success. She has since acted in Band Baaja Baaraat, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, NH 10 amongst others. Apart from being an actress she is also a film producer.

These were the actresses whose first Bollywood role was in a Shahrukh Khan film. While some of them were successful later on, others didn’t have a high graph.
