From a doctor couple’s daughter aspiring to be an engineer to becoming one of the highest paid Indian actresses, Priyanka Chopra’s journey has been one hell of a ride. In her career span of more than a decade, PC has worked in several hits. Here’s looking at the films that shaped the actress’ career that we know now.
- Aitraaz (2004)
It is not common to see an actor/actress playing a negative role in their initial careers but Priyanka surprised everyone by her decision to do so. In this Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer she managed to grab eyeballs by playing a sexy seductress who tries to steal her former lover who’s happily married to Kareena’s character. Her portrayal was so strong that she was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a Negative Role.
- Krrish (2006)
She played Hrithik Roshan’s love interest in this Koi…Mil Gaya sequel. The film became a blockbuster hit and made PC the new it girl of B-town. She later reprised her role in its sequel.
- Don (2006)
There’s nothing more sexy than watching a beautiful babe driving bikes, shooting people and killing it in backless dressses. Chopra did all in Farhan Akhtar’s Don where she was paired opposite the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The film was one of the highest grossing hit of the year. She reprised her role of Roma in its sequel as well.
- Fashion (2008)
Fashion became the biggest milestone of Priyanka’s career and proved she wasn’t just a glamour adding actress but a talented woman. In this Madhur Bhandarkar’s directed movie, she essayed the role of an aspiring model, Meghna Mathur. Fashion had no major male name and relied solely on talents of its cast comprising of Priyanka (for which she won the National Award for Best Actress) and Kangana Ranaut (who won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress).
- Dostana (2008)
Even though this Karan Johar saga of two men pretending to be gays focused largely on its male leads – Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, PC surely added colours with her glamorous avatar and effortless acting. And who could forget the catchy songs like Desi Girl, Bounce, Maa Da Ladla?
- 7 Khoon Maaf (2011)
By this time PC had established herself as one of the highly sought after actresses in Bollywood. In 2011, she played Susanna in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 7 Khoon Maaf, an adaptation of Ruskin Bond’s Susanna’s Seven Husbands. She walked home with the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.
- Barfi! (2012)
It’s difficult for actors to take risks but PC did and chose to play an autistic girl named Jhilmil in this critically acclaimed film opposite Ranbir Kapoor who played a deaf and mute man. The film was sent for the Academy Award as India’s official entry.
- Mary Kom (2014)
Based on the life of Indian boxing champion Mary Kom, this film added further milestone in PC’s career. She trained for four months in boxing and gave her career’s hardest role.
